CrossSeekers Campus Ministry is in the process of redesigning and moving our website. You can keep up with the progress at www.crossseekerswcu.com, where we’ll have new features and all the information you’ll need to plug in with what’s happening on campus at West Chester University.

But please be patient with us as we finish up all the details.

Well, the Spring semester has come to and end and we’ve all hopefully had a chance to catch our collective breaths. Now that summer is upon us (or at least summer classes), we want to let you know that CrossSeekers is still active on campus during the summer months.

If you’re looking to connect in with what we are doing, keep checking back here. We’ll have a study or two that you can participate in and it’ll be nice to have a few gamenights just to get away from the craziness of classes and work! All of our plans aren’t finalized yet, but we’ll keep you posted on what’s to come in the next few weeks and months.

Hey everyone. We’re continuing along in our study of Song of Solomon. It’s a 3,000-year-old document that helps us understand what relationships are meant to look like. So far, we’ve covered Attraction, Dating, Courtship and Intimacy (that means sex). This week, we’ll be looking at romance.

Even if you’ve missed some of the first sessions, it’s never too late to join in. We can even help you catch up if you’re behind.

So, join us Wednesday night in Goshen 101A at 7:15 as we continue to look at God’s intentions for proper relationships.

This week, we won’t be meeting in Goshen 101A at our usual time. Instead, we’ll be in 168 Main Hall to hear Mike Licona from the North American Mission Board give a presentation titled The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus. We hope you’ll join us at 7 p.m. for this event. Licona will present until about 8 p.m. and will follow his presentation by fielding questions from the audience for 45 minutes-an hour.

Maybe you have issues with the idea of Jesus (or anyone of that matter) rising from the dead and have questions you’d like to have answered. Perhaps it all sounds like hogwash, and you’ve got your own “evidence”. Or, you could just be on the fence, wanting to hear someone bring a convincing argument on either side. Regardless of where you’re coming from, you’ll want to check this presentation out to get a clearer picture of why the resurrection is so important to Christianity.

And what’s more, it’s free! So come on out to the auditorium in Main Hall at WCU and hear the scoop.

No, that’s not really right, is it? I mean, it’s not what Jesus meant when He said He came to bring a sword, was it? Of course not! As we continue to look at the fourth session of The Tough Sayings of Jesus, we’re going to see where Jesus basically says, “Don’t assume that I came to bring peace on the earth.” That statement doesn’t seem to jive with what we see in Isaiah — that the Messiah will be called the “Prince of Peace.” So what did Jesus mean? Well, join us in Goshen 101A on Wednesday night at 7:15 and find out more.

This week, we’ll be reading from Mark 10:17-31. It’s the story of the rich, young ruler, and you might be pretty familiar with it. However, our tendency is to gloss over the things that Jesus said or make excuses that what He said was meant for that specific instance and nothing else. Is that really how it works? Why does Jesus say the things He says? We’ll dig in deeper to find out, so come out to Goshen 101A on Wednesday nights at 7:15 as we look into The Tough Sayings of Jesus.

Tonight (Wednesday) in Goshen 101A at 7:15, we’ll be having our first Impact Gathering of the semester. We’ll get together, recap the break and introduce our new series on The Tough Sayings of Jesus as well as give you an update on all that is going on with CrossSeekers in the forseeable future. Free drinks and snacks are alwas available at our events. We’ll see you there!

The Spring semester is about to commence, and we hope you’re ready for it!

As we begin the semester, you’ll want to join us on Wednesday nights in Goshen 101A at 7:15 p.m. We’re going to be diving in to some of the tough things that Jesus said. What did He really mean? Was He racist? What was He really all about? Each Wednesday night, we’ll look at one of these tough sayings and dig in to find what was really behind these things He said. We look forward to seeing you out.

The semester is waning now that we’re into the last full week of classes for the semester. There are still some things coming down the road for CrossSeekers Campus Ministry, and we thought it would be good to let you know what’s happening through the last two weeks of the semester.

Breakfast Crew finishes the semester on Tuesday morning (Dec. 4) in the Academic Quad outside Main Hall from 7:30-8. Yes, it’s early, but come out and help distribute free breakfast bars to your fellow students. Or, come get something free to put in your own stomach.

Tuesday gives you another chance to eat as the Commuter Lunch also has its last gathering for those of you who make your way to campus from home each day. We’ll meet in Sykes around noonish and hang out for a while to get to know each other and engage in relevant discussions. This lunch is geared toward commuter students, but anyone is welcome to join in.

On Wednesday, Dec. 5, Brodie and Becky will host the CrossSeekers Campus Ministry Christmas Bash beginning at about 7 p.m. in their apartment. There will be snacks and plenty of fun. You’ll want to come with a festive mood and a wrapped gift ($10 or less) for our first-ever Dirty Sana Gift Exchange. It’s our way of getting together and saying “Merry Christmas!” Come join in the fun and bring a friend!

Next Wednesday (Dec. 12th), we’ll be gathering together at The Journey (200 S. Church St.) for a study break during finals week. Come out anytime between 5:30 and midnight to enjoy food, video games, movies, pool, foosball, board games, and plenty of friends. We just want to have a good time and get a break from all the stress of finals week. Join in on the fun and bring as many people as you’d like. We just want to have a great time together!

And don’t forget that we’ll still be here next semester. We’ll kick off our Impact gatherings with discussions on some of the tough sayings of Jesus. Then, we’ll have a guest speaker join us on Feb. 20th to share about apologetics. He is a leading scholar in apologetics and has been featured in Lee Strobel’s latest book The Case for the Real Jesus. We’ll also be taking part in our annual midwinter retreat. Incounter Weekend will take place Feb. 8-10 and will cost you about$50. This retreat brings together collegiate students from all across Pennsylvania and New Jersey who are seeking an authentic encounter with Christ and are looking to make an impact on their campuses.

So there’s a head’s up to get you ready for the next couple of weeks of this semester and a brief overview of what’s coming at the beginning of next semester. We look forward to seeing you out soon!

For those of you who haven’t been able to connect up with CrossSeekers Campus Ministry, we wanted to let you know that we are active on campus and hoping to provide a warm environment for students to come together and grow in their relationship with God and each other. Some of the things we do are as simple as handing out free breakfast bars on campus. Other times, we’re digging deep into God’s Word or praying together for specific issues in our lives.

Honestly, it’s easy for students to lose sight of God in the big picture of the collegiate environment. There are so many distractions around us and it takes a concentrated effort to overcome those things that would seek to rob us of our satisfaction in Christ. They may not affect all in the same way. We all deal with different things differently. Where one student may have a problem with alcohol, another might not but still be wrapped up in sexual immorality or being judgmental.

God’s Word tells us to focus in on the things of Him. Several times, we find in Scripture the call to turn our eyes to Him and set our hearts on the things of the Spirit. There, we will find life and peace, whereas, the things of the flesh and the world breed death and despair. So here’s the challenge that we talked about this past Wednesday night: clean ourselves so that we can be set apart as useful to God, ready for every good work. Step into the spiritual shower of God’s grace and allow Him to wash away all the muck in our lives. Drink deeply of His love and breathe in His Spirit to purify your life and refine your faith in Him.
